Scandal and fashion combine in a sexy Houston-based podcast you really need to check out if, like me, you are fascinated by both couture and crime. Donae Chramosta, Owner of the vintage couture resale store The Vintage Contessa & Times Past explains there are two sides to every woman and by teaming up with Rania Mankarious, Executive Director of Crimes Stoppers, the dynamic duo exhibit that each week in their podcast, Styling Social Justice.
Each week, The Contessa and Rania talk live with local and national personalities at the Crime Stoppers headquarters downtown about current events, social injustice, safety and health. Guests have included former Hearst magazine editor Joanna Coles, Sky High for Kids pediatric cancer foundation founder Brittany Hebert and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mike Rezendes, who uncovered the corruption occurring in the Catholic church.
“We are inspired by people who are passionate about affecting change in their communities and we just love a good story,” says Rania. “Our podcast is unique in that we entertain and educate at the same time, after all, women can talk about mascara and the Middle East.”
The podcast broadcasts live every Thursday at 10:00 AM and fans can subscribe on Facebook, iTunes, YouTube, GooglePlay, SoundCloud and StylingSocialJustice.com. Within 24 hours after taping each episode is uploaded to all podcast platforms and the You Tube site. Recent interviews have included Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, and an interview with Dr. Jay Davis about travel tips in a world of Coronavirus. Oil & Gas Executives and Human Trafficking advocates John Clark and Jennifer Hohman recently came on the show as well as HPD Commander Jim Dale to talk about Trauma Informed Care and what parents must do when a child goes missing to everything behind the scenes on the law enforcement side to what is needed for healing for victims.
Rania explains the show straddles the line between social advocacy, crime prevention and yes, good old fashioned girl talk.
“When I book a guest I like to do the research ahead of time to really get into some good questions and guide the conversation into areas I am curious about. The beauty of what we do is we can stay ahead of issues and can inform our audience about what they need to be aware of, like trending crime and political issues to protect themselves and their families. We also love fashion and have so much fun talking style and dissecting trends.”
Rania says her dream guests for the future include international fashion trendsetter Olivia Palermo and philanthropist Lauren Bush Lauren. She also writes a local blog for The Buzz Magazines helping parents navigate the often confusing world facing their families with insider tips from the pros on everything from dangerous phone apps and cyberbullying to stalkers and marijuana laws.
